We got back in the pool for the first time in almost a month. Our tattoo artist wants people to wait four weeks after a tat before getting in a swimming pool. Ceecee is still training for her marathon and I won’t be doing another triathlon until at least next Spring, so I’m not very motivated to be in the pool. I’m one of those triathletes who considers swimming to be a necessary evil. We have one, and maybe two 10K’s coming up, though, so I need to stay in running shape.

It was my Dad’s 80th birthday yesterday and we are going to his and my Mom’s house this afternoon to celebrate. We also got invited to a sushi party by some friends from work and we’re going to that later tonight, so this is getting to be a really full day. Could turn out to be a good one. I still think Ceecee and I are really close to breaking through and putting this all behind us, so maybe tonight.

This morning, we ran our races and Ceecee got second place in the medical mile! I was so excited and proud of her. She didn’t even know she had placed until the announcer called out her name. She was 8th overall and second in her age group. She got a silver medal and I got a picture of her with this huge grin plastered all over her face.

I ran my first 5K and missed my goal by one second. If I had been experienced and known what I was doing, I could have made it, but as I was running to the finish line, I didn’t even look at the clock to see what the time was. Anyway, I got 30:01 and for my first race ever, it wasn’t bad. Hope the rest of the day is a success!

I started doing a running program called the “Couch to 5K” or C25K for short after Ceecee’s half-marathon. The goal is to get a person to be able to run a 5K race within about nine weeks starting from nothing. This morning, Ceecee ran a 5K race called the May Day 5K and I did the one mile fun run. I wasn’t even completely sure I could do the mile, but I did, and it was actually pretty easy.

Ceecee ran the 5K in just over 27 minutes and said her next race will be better. I was impressed with her time and think she did great. She even told me that her shoes came untied twice and she had to stop and tie them. She amazes me. She’s been swimming more and more and just gradually increases her distance. We go to the pool together and I try to encourage her, but she still doesn’t think she’s much of a swimmer.

She wants to run a marathon this year. She says it’s to “prove that she isn’t old.” She’s turning 39 in a couple of weeks, so I don’t know what she’s talking about. Anyway, they are starting a training program soon for the Bass Pro marathon and it’s $100 and I went ahead and signed her up today. She wants to do this and I support her. It’s through a running guru named Jeff Galloway who I’ve never heard of, but he has a book out and it’s supposed to be a big deal.
