Ceecee came up to the mall and had lunch with me today.  I had to work all day at Macy’s, but we got to spend a little time together.  

The big news is, she found out that Border’s is closing.  If you love books as much as she does, that’s a big deal.  It’s her favorite bookstore, so much that even where we’re travelling, she wants to go to Border’s stores in other cities and states.  

She’s pretty bummed out about it, and of course she wants to go while they are having everything on clearance.  She also has a kobo, which is the e-reader associated with Border’s.  Who knows now what will happen with that.

Day 160 and Counting…An Unmanly Post

I have a very unmanly confession to make.  One of my top favorite movies of all time is Anne of Green Gables.  Yes, as in “based on the novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery,” and made for a TV miniseries.  And….I own the entire set on DVD and watch them regularly.

I realize that I am now in jeopardy of losing my man-license and I have just written this for the entire world to read.  Why am I doing this?  I’m not sure, other than this is me and I’m telling it like it is.  And Ceecee and I had an Anne of Green Gable movie marathon at the loft today which involved crying.

That’s another thing.  I’ve always been a sensitive guy and I’ve been known to get emotional at movies before this, but now, since my change of heart and the things we’ve been through…it’s water works all the time.  I don’t fight it, though.  I know I’ve been through a lot of healing and there’s a lot of release that just needs to happen, so I let it.

My wife is a Harry Potter fanatic. Well, my whole family pretty much is, if you really want to know. We are very much a reading family, and children’s literature was a big part of our home while we were raising the kids.

As far as HP goes, it turns out that the characters are pretty much the same age as our oldest two, and not far off from the others. That has allowed our kids to almost feel as though they grew up with the kids in the Harry Potter story, reading the books and watching the movies.

When Angie first wanted to read Harry Potter, we were concerned about the idea that it contained witchcraft. We had heard negative things from the church and we knew it was somewhat controversial. Our policy on things like that was that one of us would read or watch it first and make a decision.

Ceecee read the first Harry Potter novel and loved it. Since then, there’s been no stopping it. We’ve been to midnight book release parties, movie premieres, and on and on. And tonight is the release of the 7th movie, so we’ll be sitting at the theater for that. It’s hard to imagine getting home from the movies at around 3 AM on a school night, but it’s Harry Potter and, well, that’s just what we’re going to do.
